Dark Chocolate – Good for you

Posted by  |  Posted in Dark Chocolate  |  Posted on: 8-04-2009

By Adaeze Zheng

Dark Chocolate, chocolate, chocolate! How many people do you know who don’t like chocolate? It’s safe to say not many, right? Dark chocolate is especially yummy and as it turns out it has health benefits as well. This is especially so with dark pure coco chocolate. It almost seems too good to be true. Most people probably know that chocolate like coffee begins with a bean. Cocoa beans from cocoa trees were first manufactured into chocolate over three millennia ago in tropical South America. It has since become the most popular of all sweets on Earth. With its many varieties and different tastes chocolate is the go to of all candy ever manufactured.

Although dark chocolate is an acquired taste it remains the most popular amongst true cocoa lovers. The production of chocolate is almost synonymous with that of wine. The cocoa is harvested from the cocoa trees and then beat into a pulp. The pulp is then put into containers where it is fermented, much like the grapes used in making wine. After they are fermented the beans are laid out in the sun to dry, usually for 5-7 days. Once dried they are then shipped to a processing plant where the beans are cleaned of impurities and blended with other ingredients depending on what kind of chocolate is to be made.

Different chocolate types go through slightly different processes. Milk chocolate goes through a different process than dark chocolate for instance. Then once the desired taste has been achieved, the chocolate is stored and shipped to its final destination. Dark chocolate as mentioned before is not only a tasty treat it can be beneficial to different body systems. It has been suggested in medical studies that dark chocolate is particularly good for circulatory health. There have been modest reductions in blood pressure reported by people who regularly ingest dark chocolate products. It has also been shown to reduce bad cholesterol and prevent heart attacks.

One thing to keep in mind if you are interested in the health benefits of dark chocolate is to get the right kind of chocolate. You need to be sure that it is manufactured with no harmful additives that take away from the health benefits. But once you find the right chocolate you will be happy that there is also another great benefit to dark chocolate. It has been known to be an aphrodisiac! Desert that is healthy and sex!

Himfr.com Reports Barry Callebaut To Buy Spanish Chocolate Maker

Posted by Amanda Xia  |  Posted in Chocolate  |  Posted on: 24-11-2009

Barry Callebaut has signed an agreement to acquire Spain’s Chocovic, in a deal that will give the chocolate giant its first manufacturing plant in Spain.

Currently owned by the Nederland Group, around 60 per cent of Chocovic’s sales are to industrial customers, and 40 per cent to artisanal or professional users such as restaurants, pastry chefs and chocolatiers. Its product and brand portfolio is “highly complementary” to Barry Callebaut’s.

Chocovic makes a total of 30,000 tonnes of chocolate and specialty products per year at its factory in Gurb, north of Barcelona. The acquisition will give Barry Callebaut its first manufacturing plant in Spain; in the past it has imported chocolate into that market from plants elsewhere. Overall, Barry Callebaut operates 40 production facilities around the world.

“It is important to be closer to the customers,” Barry Callebaut spokesperson Gaby Tschofen told FoodNavigator.com. But she added that, although Spanish customers are very important, the chocolate manufactured in Spain will not be exclusively for that market.

Barry Callebaut also plans to use Chocovic as a platform to further build up its gourmet offering. Chocovic’s main B2B brands are Chocovic and Novacrem. It also has a chocolate academy known as Aula Chocovic, which offers training to professionals and technical support to the commercial team.

Because of its strategic positioning and recognition in the Spanish market for covertures, Barry Callebaut plans to keep Chocovia’s current brand names and network.

The deal excludes other activities of the Nederland Group, such as Moner Cocoa and the cocoa processing business Nederland SA.

Barry Callebaut has taken a strategic decision to exit the consumer chocolate business and focus on its industrial operations. But a plan to sell its consumer interests, including the Alprose and Sarotti brands, to Natra in exchange for a 45-49 per cent minority

stake fell through in September. This means it is still mulling ways to do this - but according to chairman Andreas Jacobs there is “no time or financial pressure”

Financial details of Chocovic acquisition have not been released, but Chocovia had annual sales of around ?60m in 2008 and employs around 120 people. Barry Callebaut’s sales for 2007/8 exceeded ?2.9bn (CHF4.9bn). The deal is still subject to approval by the Spanish competition authorities.

Barry Callebaut says it expects the transaction to close by the end of this calendar year.

Everyone Loves Chocolate

Posted by Kathy Forcey  |  Posted in Chocolate  |  Posted on: 20-11-2009

Brides and grooms have been distributing chocolate wedding favors as personal gifts for years. Why are these favors so popular? Why should someone who attends your wedding have to be sent home with gifts? The wedding is meant for the bride and groom; your family and friends should attend because they love you not to receive anything from you.

Wedding favors are gifts that the bride and groom provide to their wedding party. There are unlimited possibilities for the gifts that the couple decides to distribute. Chocolate wedding favors have become one of the most popular gifts for wedding guests.

Chocolate wedding favors have been a favorite for guests for decades. The wedding favors are something that the bride takes upon herself to choose for her many guests. The bride normally chooses something that she enjoys as a token of her appreciation to her family and friends.

The history of distributing wedding favors dates back to the sixteenth century. Many upper class Europeans would distribute parting gifts to their guests to demonstrate their wealth and stature in society. The gifts these wealthy families provided were elaborate and thoughtful signs of appreciation to all their guests.

The first wedding favor that was given contained chocolates inside an elaborate jewel studded box, known by the French as a bonbonniere. Sugar was seen as a luxury to everyone in the sixteenth century. So, it was only appropriate that each gift contained some of the most expensive sugar made candy there was around. The bride and groom of the wedding were seen to be blessed and lucky, therefore by distributing gifts to all who attended their joyful day they could spread their blessings.

Chocolate wedding favors have grown to be the most widely used gift for a large percentage of weddings. The wedding favor has made things a lot less hectic on the bride and groom. With distributing chocolate as a favor you eliminate the stress of buying multiple gifts for different people.

Many companies these days that manufacture chocolate such as Hershey’s, among many others, will personalize the chocolate favors for a particular wedding. The bride and groom have a large variety to choose from, but can be assured that whatever cholcoate wedding favors they select will be thoroughly enjoyed by their guests.

When you start planning a wedding you need to think of food. If you start searching for a plus size mother of the bride dress you will need to consider what food is going to be acceptable for the wedding meal.

Sweet Hampers Make Forgiveness Easier

Posted by Michael Parker  |  Posted in Chocolate  |  Posted on: 18-11-2009

Nobody’s perfect. That being said, no matter how people love someone and try their best to care for them, they could still hurt them sometimes. In friendship, friends hurt each other’s feelings unintentionally. Each one may feel betrayed and it causes the friendship to fizzle.

Lovers also hurt one another. No matter how in love they are with each other, jealousy still seeps in, doubt still springs, and sometimes accusations get out of hand. When lovers get hurt, they feel distant from one another, often putting a wall between them and this leads to no talking for days and even weeks.

But when people really love someone, they don’t allow the hurts to linger and they do what is best to save the relationship. When they realize their fault, they swallow their pride and summon all their courage to come up to the person they have hurt and ask for a sincere apology.

Sometimes it is not easy to apologize. Some got hurt really bad that it’s not easy for them to accept sorry that quickly. Others are willing to compromise and forget the past swiftly. However, for every apology to be heard, it should be sincere as a fine spring day and as sweet as sweets-filled sweet hampers. Through this, soon the hurts will be forgotten and everyone can start anew.

When hurt, people have the tendency to become sad, resentful, angry and depressed. However, it’s a no brainer that people do soften up with every kind of sweets, whether they’re retro sweets or not. It is not concealed that when people want to pick their selves up, they eat handful of sweets from sweet hampers.

Chocolates particularly contain phenylephylamine, a kind of hormone released by the brain when people are falling in love. It is clear then that sweet hampers filled with a dozen kinds of chocolates will make any apology easier.

However, to truly apologize, people should admit to their faults and ask for forgiveness sincerely. Pairing this with roses and sweet hampers would be good, too. People know that nobody can resist the charm of flowers and sweets, especially when being used to ask for forgiveness. And so, in apologizing, sincere words and sweet hampers will make it easier.

Where Did These Sugary Treats Disappear To?

Posted by Danny Thomas  |  Posted in Chocolate  |  Posted on: 16-11-2009

I’ve been eating candy since I was a kid. While I don’t have as much now as I did then, I still have a sweet tooth that begs for attention once in a while. Sometimes, I think about the candies from my tough that no longer exist.

Some of these advertised heavily on television, and kids all over the country loved them. I guess that wasn’t enough, because they can no longer be found on shelves anymore. Which candies am I referring to here? Well, let’s have a look at a few of them.

The first one that comes to mind is Bonkers. I remember these being one of the most popular candies on the market, and their TV commercials were just as enjoyable as the candies themselves.

These were really enjoyable and came in flavors like watermelon, grape, and even chocolate. They disappeared quickly in the ’80s, before making a surprise return to the scene during the late ’90s and then fading yet again. I haven’t seen these in stores in years.

Bubble gum was seemingly more popular 20 years ago than it is today. One of the most prominent forms of gum that I remember is the kind that came inside a mini juice box. There was a face on the front, and they were offered in a few flavors.

They were little pebble shaped drops of gum, and they were absolutely delicious. This was some of the best gum I’ve ever chewed. Again, it’s been a really long time since I’ve seen these.

Mars bars. These were a really big one not too long ago, but they no longer exist. Where are they? The Mars company is still around, so where did these go?

Well, you’ll be happy to know that they’re “disguised” now, as the old Mars bar is now the Snickers almond bar that you see in many stores. If you’re in the mood for a Mars bar, now you know exactly how to get your fix.

Times have changed, but fewer candies have. We’re fortunate to still have most of the classics that defined our childhoods.
