Don’t Be Late For Your Wedding

Posted by Jessica Bradmore  |  Posted in cake  |  Posted on: 11-03-2010

I find it strange when the bride or the groom runs tardy for their wedding. Well, it happens each and every time in the movies so why not in reality, right? Running tardy just gives all the suspense to either the bride or even the groom, waiting for their lover to show up anytime soon for their wedding. Not to mention the thrill and excitement that the men and women attending happen to be deriving from this diva-like attitude. It would likely either help to make almost everyone relieved when the tardy one arrives, or everyone gets angry for keeping them so nervous that she or he isn’t really arriving. Runaway bride, anybody? Sorry but it is not going to work anymore. You have got to be there simply by hook or by simply crook.

A number of guys blame being tardy on getting drunk the night before because of stag parties and such. A few blame it on the truth that they weren’t in the position to sleep at all and just before the sun rises, they were able to take a nap but then they get so much more than just a short snooze. Many blame it on faulty bridal autos or the driver got sick and so a replacement had to be found first. Another standard reason for girls being late for the wedding is their make up.

They just can’t make up their minds on what make up to wear. That’s what the make up artist is there for. It’s their problem and that’s what they’re getting paid a hefty amount for so leave it to them. Doing the hair is another. You should get a hairstylist who knows how to set up hair immediately and when we say hair, we’re not referring to ponytails and pullbacks. We’re referring to big, curly hair flowing out of the tiara and what have you. Better consult the internet for the hairdo you’d want for the wedding at least months before so that you could still check and look for hairstylists who can do that for you.

For men, get your ties, bows, suits, belts, cufflinks, shoes and other paraphernalia ready for the big day. Lay them on the bed where you could see every item. Just like how the girls lay all their stuff on the bed to make it easier for them to see if everything’s in place (and for photo shoot purposes as well). Another thing to make sure is the bridal car. You don’t want the car to break down in the middle of the road halfway to the church, right? Unless you want a dramatic entrance, running all the way to the wedding ceremony and looking like a sweat sock on your wedding day.

The cake must also be ordered ahead of time as you would still combine the design with the way you desire it to appear and taste. If you are having a reception, plan on the menu ahead of time. Play safe. Do not bring in excessive seafood and nuts as numerous folks would be allergic to them. If you wish to go somewhat exotic, you better plan for the menu and make sure they are edible and reliable to eat. You do not want your wedding reception to turn into a mass grave.

Anyways, look out for gate crashers. You can’t miss them in case you take care of everything in advance and if you’re not late on your wedding day to find everyone come and witness your big day.

Cake Decorating Books - The Start of Your Decorating Adventure!

Posted by Natalie Baker  |  Posted in General  |  Posted on: 3-03-2010

If you want to learn cake decorating techniques you may think you need to spend a lot of money on DVDs or take classes in person. That isn’t true. All you need are some good cake decorating books that are well illustrated and you can learn on your own and save time and money. Just be sure to buy books that are filled with easy to follow pictures. You can use the money you save on classes to buy some extra cake decorating tools.

The instructions in the book must be easy to understand and take you step by step from preparing the cake in the beginning to applying the final decorative touches in the end. The book must make sense and be easy for you to follow. Nothing would be worse than to buy a book that is difficult to understand and lacks clear pictures to guide you.

In fact, the more pictures the book has, the better. The pictures should be of high quality and detailed so that you can easily duplicate the decorating techniques at home. Books that are highly illustrated are the most useful especially when it comes to learning difficult techniques like making flowers. Some books are better than others so it is important you do your research before you buy it.

In addition to teaching you various cake decorating techniques, the cake decorating books should also give you plenty of tips that will give your cakes a more professional look when you are finished. A lot of that starts with the cake, in wiping away crumbs and aligning the layers in the right way. A good book will tell you all you need to know so your cakes turn out the best.

You will also need to know how to make the icing and what types are best for each type of technique you use. The books should show all of the standard techniques like making flowers and piping. Making flowers can be especially tricky so the more detailed the instructions are, the better you will be able to master the skill.

You will find there are many books that you can choose from. Just be sure to look it over thoroughly first so you are certain you will be able to learn from it. With the right book you can teach yourself cake decorating techniques a lot quicker than you would pick them up by attending expensive classes. You might be surprised at how much you can learn from a good instructional book.

Just think of all the fun birthday cakes you can make for your kids when you learn various cake decorating techniques. Good books will give you ideas for birthdays, anniversaries, holidays, and many other occasions. You will never run out of reasons to use your newly learned skills at cake decorating.

Learning how to decorate cakes by using cake decorating books can help you start your own business too. Many people who learn how to do these cake decorating techniques wind up selling cakes to people, who don’t know how to do them. This can turn into a successful business venture in the end.

Planning The Wedding - Important Steps

Posted by Adriana Noton  |  Posted in cake  |  Posted on: 27-01-2010

Weddings are fun, but anyone who has ever planned a wedding might be happy to tell you about the horror stories of everything that went wrong. Unfortunately, this happens all too often no matter how well you plan or how experienced your resources might be. Planning the wedding doesn’t have to be like that, though.

What is vital in planning any wedding is to allot a reasonable amount of time for the size of the festivities. In other words, if you want to hire a caterer who has his own reality TV show, and you want a gown designed by Vera Wang, plan on 12 ‘ 18 months at a minimum, not to mention you must plan for the exorbitant costs.

Any formal affair that entails hundreds of guests, designer gowns, destination travel plans, a celebrity style caterer, and additional custom touches, will take at least a year of virtual full time planning. For a smaller wedding of perhaps ‘family and friends’ ‘ under 50 people ‘ you’re still looking at two months, although a month (with lots of help) might be reasonable.

No one can make all the necessary wedding plans all alone. You need help. You need to have at least a few people to rely on. Delegate! If you’re into micromanaging everything, technology can help. Smart phones can show you pictures of flowers, videos of churches and halls, and even photos of wedding cakes. Let someone else do the legwork and you can still make the final decision.

You don’t need to do it all yourself. Learn to delegate. You’ll be surprised how things can get done if you choose some reliable friends, give them an assignment, and leave them alone. Almost everyone has a smart phone that can be used like a laptop ‘ if they have questions or want your opinion on something they can send you pictures, text you a question, or even take a video walking around a reception hall to see if you like it.

Even if you don’t have an artistic bone in your body, you can still print your own invitations. Specialty kits that include everything from paper stock to envelopes to ribbons and more can be ordered online or found in office supply stores. To save even more time, add an email address instead of having people mail those pesky little RSVP cards back. What was gauche even 10 years ago is now considered de rigueur. The same goes for wedding photos. Hire a professional wedding photographer to fulfill your needs.

Formal sit down dinners are cumbersome, error prone, and rarely appreciated. With photos, dancing, talking, and catching up with family and friends, many dinners remain untouched. Opt for something just as elegant but easier on the budget and probably more enjoyable. Wine and cheese receptions are quite popular, as are desserts only with a coffee bar set up instead of a full bar.

Make sure your transportation is in place a few days ahead of time. Review addresses, destinations, times, and even fees if applicable. If relying on friends, make sure they clean out their cars! Wedding dresses and Oreo cookie crumbs don’t mix!

To avoid additional problems, request that guests not bring gifts to the reception unless it is being held at your home, of course. This eliminates the need to move them again.

Professional wedding planners strive to make all weddings momentous and unforgettable. Their extensive services include hiring a Toronto wedding photographer, booking the banquet hall Toronto, and ordering the Toronto wedding cakes. Let your wedding mark the start of a long and blissful married life!

Rum Cake: From Scratch Taste without Baking from Scratch

Posted by Dylan Deleto  |  Posted in cake  |  Posted on: 22-12-2009

Rum cake is one of my family’s favorite desserts for the holiday. Everyone loves it and many have begged for my recipe, which I happily share. One of my wife’s friends actually wanted to market my cake. However, I am not in the commercial baking business and so I passed on the idea. When I originally started baking rum cakes, I baked them completely from scratch. To save time, soon I came up with a way to prepare my rum cake in only about 10 minutes using store purchased baking mix, without sacrificing any of the magic of my cake.

I begin with a cake mix, which eliminates a lot of the work. My favorite mix to use is Duncan Hines. However, I am sure that almost any cake mix might work as well. Typically, I use the yellow butter of french vanilla mix. Both turn out very well, so it just depends on your preference. I recommend that you try both.

I tend to make of a number of variations of the cake by adding or omitting nuts and/or pineapples. The main version of the cake includes pineapples with nuts on the bottom. I am really the only in family who likes the nuts so I typically leave them out. When I do add nuts, I prefer black walnuts. Sometimes, I use different flavored rums as well: spice rum, vanilla rum, banana rum, etc. The rum sauce is optional after the cake is done. I don’t think it is a rum cake without the sauce soaked into the cake.

What makes the recipe great is that there no sacrifice in taste and the preparation time is a mere 10 minutes. It does require about 1 hour to bake in the oven.

The aroma of the cake leads people into the kitchen and you will have to fight them off to avoid cutting the cake before it cools. It tastes really good once the rum sauce soaks in. The only problem with the cake is that you will probably end up baking 2 or 3.

Now that you are salivating. I am sure that you want to get your hands on my recipe. The only way to get my recipe is to join my site: Building Leaders of Tomorrow. Then send RumCake, a user on the site, a private message requesting the Rum Cake recipe.

Please visit and join the first Social Network for Leaders and leaders under development. The goal of this site is to develop and engage future leaders and assist the leaders of today. Frosting Recipes, Take The Time To Make Your Own

Posted by Maura Luke  |  Posted in cake  |  Posted on: 1-11-2009

Making your own frosting is easy with the right frosting recipes, it is also more economical, tastier, healthier and convenient. Preservative free frosting just like Grandma used to make looks better, tastes better and will give you a sense of achievement.

Americans have been spoiled with convenience foods, but they have also suffered because of this. So many artificial flavorings and preservatives in everything can’t be good for anyone. You should use the same rules that your Grandmother used when shopping, if it does not look like food then it probably isn’t. For example if Gran went shopping for cheese and was confronted by a tube, she never would believe it was food, and it actually isn’t.

It does not take as much time as you think to make frosting, and today we have all the beaters and kitchen gadgets we want at our disposal. Grandma would have made it with a bowl and a wooden spoon, we don’t have to do that and our frosting will taste just as good as hers, the kids will never want you to buy store bought frosting again!

If you make use of a single butter frosting recipe, you can add and subtract ingredients as you will to change the flavor and color. If you want orange, strawberry and chocolate frosting fro one batch of cupcakes, mix up one batch, divide it into three portions, add chocolate to one, fresh strawberries to another and fresh orange juice and zest to the third batch. Substitute cream cheese for butter and make frosting for a carrot cake.

Delicious, fast and easy, home made frosting can be whipped up in many different flavors using a basic recipe. All kinds of plain store bought cookies can be frosted to tart them up, cup cakes, brownies and cakes can be frosted to make them taste extra special.

One tip, is don’t confuse confectioners sugar with granulated sugar, you won’t get frosting. Another is don’t use margarine, use butter, it makes your frosting taste so much better. Never frost a cake until it has cooled completely and always refrigerate left overs.

Want to find out more about frosting recipes, then visit Maura Duke’s site on how to choose the best frosting recipe for your needs.

4 Imaginative suggestions for Winter Wedding Favors

Posted by Aaron Hu  |  Posted in cake  |  Posted on: 23-10-2009

This winter many brides are looking for interesting one of a kind favors to use in their nuptials. The reason is that the winter season has only so many variations of the winter or holiday themes to use effectively. So in the end, it comes down to uniquely styled decorations and gifts. These favors not only thank guests for attending but also look to create an impression in guests that will make the wedding ceremony and reception all the more memorable. This can be tricky even for the bride with an unlimited budget, let alone that of a bride working with a more modest budget. However, it can be done especially if you know where to look. Here are some interesting winter wedding favors that you can find on the internet.

Personalized favors are a main staple of wedding favors. When you are picking gifts to give to several people at once, you may not have the time to pick an individual item that is best suited for each person. Personalization is a great option because you can not only customize items to meet the theme, but they also convey the good thoughts behind your gift. A simple note of thanks directed to the recipient will make even the simplest gift seem more substantial. Personalization is also something that is considered extra and will be seen by guest as the bride going the extra mile. Some great examples are personalized drink mixes or coffee mugs.

Utilitarian winter wedding favors are another smart route. One of the big problems for brides is that the items that they give while nice, will often be tossed away after the wedding except by the few guests who like to collect such items. A great way to avoid this is to choose items that guests can use in their daily lives and see if you can find a version that perfectly matches your winter wedding theme. This is easy to do if you do some research on the internet and at local stores. Some great examples are grooming kits, money clips, and even key chains. Each of these items are inexpensive but will be used every day by the attendees at your nuptials

Holiday oriented gifts. While not as useful as the previous type they still will be quite popular. In most cases, the majority of your guests celebrates Christmas or enjoys the Holiday season. This is a great opportunity to give holiday themed gifts. Many can be immediately used in your friends and family’s homes to add an extra bit of Christmas cheer. This can be anything from a tree ornament to a special candle. Christmas Wedding favors for these reasons can be quite effective.

Mementos or souvenirs are the most direct form of winter wedding favors. One of the key purposes of a guest gift is to remind your guests of this special moment each time they look at it. So a simple but good idea is to give gifts that are expressly for that purpose. This could be disposable cameras that take pictures of the events of your wedding, or a personalized photo frame. These are gifts designed to preserve memories and most of your guest will get the idea when they receive them. This is how you can make your wedding unforgettable.

Aaron Hu has authored on an extensive range of topics related to the wedding industry. If you are looking for Christmas Wedding Favors, E-WeddingFavors.com has the biggest selection available. You will also find Bridal Shower Party Favors and much more, all at very affordable prices.
