How To Eliminate Addiction To Chocolates

Posted by Daniella Gabby  |  Posted in Chocolate  |  Posted on: 1-09-2010

It is hard to believe that a lot of people become addicted to eating chocolates. This is because chocolate is never frowned at as a harmful substance like other addictive items such as drugs. The reason is very simple, who can ever think of chocolate as being a cause of worry just like the well known addictive substances of which the users normally need help to rescue them from their addiction. There are different ways of helping them.

You first need to get to the root of what is really going on in your life as it is. Know that nothing can happen in this world without a proper reason; and the same is very true with chocolate addiction.

So face the situation frankly and sincerely that there is need for something to be done and open a page where you can record every step of the journey to self improvement. Well, eating chocolate is nothing one should be ashamed of till it starts to get out of hand.

Look back and find out how you reached the level you are in now. It is called self reflection. Try to find out what really led to this kind of overdependence on chocolate; meaning there must have been something that made you start soothing yourself with eating chocolate most of the time.

Immediately you get to this realization, you begin to see how the patterns in your life like loneliness, heartbrokenness, and melancholy for example were responsible for your predicament. These are the things you need to put down on paper from today so that you can now start taking new steps towards a wholesome life.

If you felt a bit low and depressed sometimes and had to instantly reach out for chocolates to make you feel better, and this was repeated over and over in the past. The hard truth is that you are an addict of chocolates and now you have put your finger on the reason for this dependency.

It is worthwhile to know that this is the beginning of a journey to self fulfillment because you will now be able to deal successfully with the root cause of the addiction.

Do this repeatedly even if it will go for a whole month because what you need is to be able to identify the real issues that had caused you this trouble, and had to record them whether good or bad.

If Chocolate And Vanilla Were Never Discovered

Posted by Aaron Miller  |  Posted in Chocolate  |  Posted on: 28-07-2010

The discovery of the New World has changed the diet of the rest of the world in some ways. Without the discovery, the rest of us who are not natives of South America would never enjoy the rich tastes offered by foods such as corn, potatoes, tomatoes, chili peppers, and chocolate to name but a few.

The humble but indispensable peanut is also a native of the New World, with over 80 wild species. One also cannot imagine a modern diet without pineapples and cashews and strawberries. Then there is vanilla, another worldwide favorite. Actually of the world’s top twenty-six crops by tonnage, eight came from the Americas, with a 3rd of the United States’ crop value composed of foods that came from the New World.

These are the ingredients that have made possible Malay satays, Indian curries, and many spicy Sichuan dishes. And naturally where would pizza be without the tomato, or half modern Italian cuisine? And the planet’s 2 preferred flavours of ice cream, chocolate and vanilla ; regardless of where you look in your superstore, chances are that there’s something crucial which came from the Western Hemisphere.

Indeed, we are still finding new uses for these foods, some of which aren’t even related to a healthy diet. Chocolate is being explored for medical effects, while corn has for a while been established as an alternative fuel. But our survey isn’t over yet! There are still a few more foods we have got to mention before our list can be even halfway complete.

Turkey meat is an important part of many Americans’ diets now, at least each Thanksgiving Day. Tapioca is found in not just in sweet tapioca pudding but in bubble tea as well , an amazingly various category of sweet beverages popular throughout The Far East. Then there are lima beans and bananas. And all this is just the beginning!

Too Much Chocolate Is Not Fit For You

Posted by Daniella Gabby  |  Posted in Chocolate  |  Posted on: 1-07-2010

A lot of people think that there really is no thing as a healthy kind of chocolate. This sinfully sweet treat is thought of as a high fat item that is one of the highest calorie foods we can eat.

But, believe it or not, there are plenty kinds of chocolate out there, and look into the different varieties before deciding to avoid them altogether.

Some chocolate contains milk and sugar while having very little cocoa in them. These are the ones to avoid the most because they are very unhealthy and loaded with empty calories. While they give a quick energy boost, they mess up your blood sugar levels and they also make you more hungry.

Additionally, it can lead to over eating, weight gain and in increase in unhealthy fat levels which can lead to various health problems.

But, the chocolates that have a lot of cocoa in them and less sugar are not that unhealthy. They don’t have nearly as many calories in them, and they also don’t give off the energy rush and subsequent crash.

Cocoa beans also have anti oxidants in them that have been shown to be beneficial to our health, and the higher levels of cocoa, the more anti oxidants they are.

Remember that eating too much chocolate is not a good thing to get into the habit of doing. Even if it seems like healthy chocolate. All chocolate has lots of calories. However, the more cocoa you eat, the less you will crave, which will help reduce the desire to have a lot of chocolate.

For those who are suffering from health issues like diabetes, then staying away from chocolate altogether is probably the wisest choice. But, having them in small amounts to satisfy those occasional cravings may not be so bad. Just remember, like everything else, overindulgence is unhealthy.

Does Eating Chocolate Improve Your Heart Function?

Posted by Elaine R. Ferguson, MD  |  Posted in Chocolate  |  Posted on: 20-04-2010

Researchers at German Institute of Human Nutrition have found that increasing chocolate intake by 6 grams a day (about 1.5 ounces per week) would reduce the occurrence of heart attacks by 85 fewer per 10,000 people during the course of a decade. The results suggest that eating a small amount of chocolate daily may help the heart and lower blood pressure. Nutrition researchers published their findings on almost 20,000 adults between 35 and 65 in the European Heart Journal.

Using a series of questions, the researchers evaluated diet and exercise habits for 10 years.

Those who ate the most chocolate - an average of 7.5 grams per day or one square of a 100-gram bar - had lower blood pressure and a 39 per cent lower risk of having either a heart attack or stroke compared with those who ate the least chocolate, the researchers found.

If those consuming the smallest amount of chocolate increased their intake by six grams a day, 85 fewer heart attacks and strokes per 10,000 people could be expected to occur over a period of about 10 years, according to the study’s lead researcher Dr. Brian Buijsse of the German Institute of Human Nutrition.

“It’s a bit too early to come up with recommendations that people should eat more chocolate, but if people replace sugar or high-fat snacks with a little piece of dark chocolate, that might help,” Buijsse said. One hundred sixty-six heart attacks occurred; twenty-four were fatal, over 8 years of the study. Also, there were one hundred thirty six strokes, twelve were fatal.

The researchers warned if a person eats a small amount of chocolate, without reducing other food consumption to adjust or exercise, then it’s likely they will gain weight.

The study’s authors believe that antioxidants, known as flavanols, found in cocoa are probably the component responsible for improving heart health and lowering blood pressure. Because more cocoa is found in dark chocolate, it may possess an even greater effect. Flavanols also exists in red wine and numerous vegetables.

The participants were healthy, without a history of heart disease, and had similar exercise and smoking habits. Basic scientific suggests dark chocolate containing at least 70 per cent cocoa content reduces oxidative stress and can improve blood flow and blood pressure, Frank Ruschitzka of Switzerland’s University Hospital Zurich said in commenting on the study on behalf of the European Society of Cardiology, which publishes the journal.

Chocolate May Not Be All Bad For You

Posted by Daniella Gabby  |  Posted in Chocolate  |  Posted on: 7-03-2010

Ask anyone what their favorite guilty pleasure is, and the overwhelming response will be chocolate. We just can’t get enough of the stuff; milk, white, fruity, we love all of it. All we need now is a healthy chocolate do we can enjoy it without the guilt.

Well you probably didn’t know this but there is, and it still contains the good stuff such as the minerals and antioxidants. It doesn’t however, have all the bad stuff in it.

It’s all the stuff that we put into chocolate that makes it fattening and unhealthy. These are things such as milk solids, sugar and cocoa butter. These help to make milk chocolate taste so good, but are really bad for us. A dark chocolate and especially a low sugar bitter variety doesn’t have all these additives.

Our bodies do not recognize chocolate as food, weird huh? Eat a bar of chocolate on its own and your body will pick up on the sugar etc and just store it, and the minerals and vitamins won’t be absorbed.

So for your body to properly absorb the healthier properties you have to eat with something else. This is where dark chocolate with fruit and nuts added is so good. You get the minerals, vitamins and antioxidants as well as the goodness from the fruit and the nuts.

As dark chocolate contains a lot of iron, eating it with foods high in Vitamin C ensures that all the nutrients are absorbed and you get all the benefits. You have the best of both world here; you get all the iron, vitamins etc and it tastes absolutely gorgeous as well.

When I worked as a chocolatier I regularly consumed dark chocolate with all manner of fruits; in particular berries and nuts. A blood test showed that my levels of vitamins and minerals were perfect and I didn’t gain any weight.

So you now know which chocolate to eat if you can’t do without it. Forget the fat laden milk chocolate bars and reach for a dark chocolate with fruit and nuts and enjoy your treat without the guilt.

Like everything else, if you eat too much chocolate it becomes unhealthy, so watch your consumption.
