Travel Back In Time With Retro Sweets

Posted by Michael Parker  |  Posted in Chocolate  |  Posted on: 25-11-2009

We are considered very fortunate today because in terms of food and drink, we are presented with so many choices that we sometimes don’t even know which ones to pick. As our technology progressed, so did the various selections of foods such as sweets, sodas, pastries and so much more. It is very thrilling to think that whenever we crave for them, we can find them anywhere such as the grocery, the store at the corner, and online shops.

No matter what kinds of food we love, we can surely find something as we have so many choices. We can have them in different sizes, colors, shapes, and even which country they should come from.

Using the wonders of express mail, we can try the foods of places we have only read about. Whether we want glistening yellow mangoes of Asia, bittersweet chocolates in sweet hampers from Africa or creamy cheeses of Europe, we can have them fast.

This maybe our opinion since we are born of this time but how about our grandparents? While we are happily indulging in some of our favorite lollies, do we ever wonder what was it like during our grandparents’ time? If we give them our favorite sweets today, will they love it too and feel the same nostalgia we feel whenever we have some of it? Like us, our grandparents were young once too. Surely they went through the same phase as us. But don’t we want to know how different are our sweets now from theirs back then?

All of these may be answered by our grandparents. We can always ask them what it feels like. We can watch their expressions change as they reminisce wonderful childhood and the memories of a dozen treats from their mother’s sweet hampers. Maybe then they can tell us the difference between the sweets we have now and the treats they have then when their bodies were young and nimble. Or we can experience them ourselves. We can try it by indulging in sweet hampers filled with retro sweets.

When we think of classic treats, we should only have retro sweets. And if we present them to our grandparents, we will be surely loved even more.If we will experience bliss, nostalgia or pure happiness, there’s only one way to find out. So let’s celebrate what we have today together with what our grandparents had back then. Let’s go back in time by indulging with retro sweets-filled sweet hampers.

Sweet Hampers Make Forgiveness Easier

Posted by Michael Parker  |  Posted in Chocolate  |  Posted on: 18-11-2009

Nobody’s perfect. That being said, no matter how people love someone and try their best to care for them, they could still hurt them sometimes. In friendship, friends hurt each other’s feelings unintentionally. Each one may feel betrayed and it causes the friendship to fizzle.

For lovers, no matter how in love they are, they can still do things that are hurtful to the other. They still get jealous, they sometimes doubt the other’s intentions, and accusations sometimes go wrong. When lovers get hurt, they become distant from each other. These can go as far as to not communicating with one another for days or weeks on end.

However, it is human nature that when people strongly love someone, they find ways to make amends. When people realize they made a mistake, they pack up the courage to ask for a sincere and heartfelt apology.

Apologies don’t come easy though. Sometimes a person gets hurt so badly that he or she cannot forgive that easily. Others, however, have the ability to quickly accept a sorry and leave the past behind. But no matter the degree of hurt people inflict their loved ones, their apologies should always be sincere as spring day and as sweet as candies-filled sweet hampers. When these two are paired, in no time hurts will heal and the past forgotten.

When a person is hurt, he or she becomes sad, resentful, angry or even depressed. However, almost everyone knows that a little bit of sweet old- fashioned sweets always do the trick. That is why, it is not surprising when people are in a foul mood or they are down in the dumps, they always gobble a handful of chocolates! Some even go as far as storing sweet hampers filled with almost every candy they like.

Chocolates particularly contain phenylephylamine, a kind of hormone released by the brain when people are falling in love. It is clear then that sweet hampers filled with a dozen kinds of chocolates will make any apology easier.

However, to truly apologize, people should admit to their faults and ask for forgiveness sincerely. Pairing this with roses and sweet hampers would be good, too. People know that nobody can resist the charm of flowers and sweets, especially when being used to ask for forgiveness. And so, in apologizing, sincere words and sweet hampers will make it easier.

Visiting Families- A Sweet Gesture Like Christmas Sweets

Posted by Michael Parker  |  Posted in Chocolate  |  Posted on: 13-11-2009

Some people don’t stay very long in one place. That’s because their jobs, businesses, and other reasons force them to be constantly on the move. If they always move from one place to another, they wouldn’t really get the chance to make real friends and won’t have a lot of time to spend with new found peers and neighbors.

To some people, this lifestyle is very exciting. They feel thrilled with the fact that they will experience new adventures in this new place. These people are the kind who love meeting new friends, discovering new places, learning new cultures and speak a different language. And when they have to go on again, they wouldn’t have problems letting go of people they meet and things they learn to love.

But there are some people too who don’t like this kind of set up. For them, friends, peers and relative should always be around and their relationships with them nurtured. The familiarity and comfort that these people and places bring are the ones that make them want to stay in one place. For them, living with the people they know bring comfort and self-assurance. They feel confident and at home knowing that they could always spend the weekend with friends and share foods like Christmas sweets to neighbors and peers.

When Christmas season comes, those who love adventure and travel won’t have any troubles finding a cool place to spend Christmas with. But for those people who want to be home for Christmas, they would surely feel down and depressed if they have to spend the holidays alone. At this point, surely there are no Christmas sweets sent to them would make them feel better.

The abundance of Christmas sweets such as sherbet and candy canes is made more delightful when shared with cousins and friends. When neighbors, colleagues and relatives are around, Christmas dinner becomes more special. For these people, there is no greater joy than spending Christmas with their loved ones. Once they know they are not alone, they feel so much joy it’s as if they have eaten sweets from Christmas hampers all year round.

So if people want to be with family, friends and loved ones during the holidays, they should pay visit to them and not just send Christmas sweets. There is nothing more enjoyable than to be at home and spend time with loved ones during Christmas eve. And surrounded by the Christmas tree, decors, Christmas sweets and familiar faces, the yuletide season becomes meaningful and joyful.

Create Lasting Memories With These Halloween Recipes

Posted by Loretta Oliver  |  Posted in cake  |  Posted on: 11-09-2009

Halloween is a favorite holiday for a lot of kids mostly because of the candy and treats they get to indulge in. Traditionally, treats for Halloween consisted of store bought candy corns, and other assorted Halloween favorites. Making caramel covered apples and popcorn balls used to be a long time favorite when it came to homemade Halloween treats. Today, there are more creative ideas available for you and your family than ever before.

In our house, baking is as much a tradition for Halloween as it is for most families for Christmas. We make cookies, cakes, and all sorts of different kinds of candy. You don’t have to have a lot of special equipment or fancy cookbooks to enjoy doing this. Most of what you need you’ll find in your cupboards or can pick up on your next grocery trip.

Grab a pack of Halloween cookie cutters and roll out some sugar cookies. You can use different colored icing, or you can even buy Halloween cookie and cake decorating kits at your local craft store that are packed full of fun shaped sprinkles, precolored frostings, and decorations that you can add. I even saw pumpkin and ghost shaped cupcake tins on our recent shopping trip.

Want to make bat treats? Not a problem. Bake up a batch of brownies in a 9 x 13 sheetpan. Instaed of slicing them into squares and rectangles like you normally would, grab a bat shaped cookie cutter. Pipe on some white icing fangs to make vampire bat, and add chocolate chip eyes if you want to an extra touch.

Halloween is a time of costume making and preparing special treats. It’s the perfect time of the year to get the kids involved in the kitchen and helping to prepare different types of dishes, including the fun and spooky ones. You’re not just making treats and goodies in the kitchen, you’re making holiday memories that will last a lifetime. So have a great time and enjoy the day with your family on the “sweetest” day of the year.

Even if you’re not having a Halloween party, you can still make great use of the fun Halloween recipes in this booklet to make your night special. Add a ghost story or two and you’re all set for the perfect October 31st with your family.

It’s The History Of Chocolate The Summarized Edition!

Posted by Louise Ferguson  |  Posted in Chocolate  |  Posted on: 28-05-2009
by Maxine Smith

The history of chocolate starts with the cocoa tree which is native to the forests of South and Central America and grows to approximately 20 foot high.

This quite delicate tree starts to produce fruit in its 4th to 5th year. Large yellow or red pods encase a white pulp that hides its treasure of between 20 to 50 cocoa beans.

The cocoa bean was cultivated for centuries by the Maya Indians, the Mexican Aztecs and the Incas of Peru where they had ceremonial significance and were associated with the festivities of births and marriages. At these events they were regularly used as a tribute or money. In some areas only those of the highest ranking could enjoy the wonderful drink boiling these beans could produce.

When the Spanish conquered Mexico in 1519 they were so taken with this chocolaty drink (although they did add sugar to sweeten the taste) they introduced these trees to Trinidad where they closely guarded their secret s of cultivation and preparation. It wasn’t long however before the trees spread to the West India Islands and The Philippines’. The Dutch are believed to have introduced them into Indonesia, Sri Lanka and the Gull fog Guinea, South America however remained the chief exporter and producer until 1891.

In the Seventeenth century the drink was introduced to the noblemen and women of the courts of Spain, Italy, Germany, France and England. Chocolate was still an expensive luxury even though the secret to its preparation was out in the open. When the first chocolate house was opened in London in 1657, the cost of a pound of chocolate was more than 6 months wages putting it way out of your average 17th century Londones price bracket and making it exclusive to the very wealthy. This was due to the heavy import duty imposed on cocoa beans.

Both drinking and eating chocolate are relatively new inventions that were developed during the 19th century. The chocolate of today was not produced until a Dutchman discovered how to press the cocoa butter out of the beans.

The pressed beans could then produce a much less fatty drinking chocolate that was much more palatable than the rich buttery drink the Aztecs had made centuries earlier. The cocoa butter could then be used to make eating chocolate. In 1847 these techniques were perfected by J.S. Fry and the delicious bit of heaven that we know today as chocolate went on sale.

Now while the chocolate games are all very interesting, does it really matter to those of us who just want to gorge ourselves on the sweet creamy taste, how it got here. Or just that it did. The weird thing about history is that it changes all the time and while most things get better and progress naturally forward, Why is there always someone that wants’ to screw with a good thing. Something weird is happening to chocolate, it’s progressing and getting politically correct, it’s getting better for us while losing its delicious taste.

Chocolate doesn’t have a hard job to do, it doesn’t have to fund the cure for cancer or date Jessica Simpson it just has to tantalize our taste buds and make us smile as we swallow.

Chocolate lovers all over the world it’s time to pick up your chocolate molds get out of your chocolate fountain and put down your chocolate cake (only for a minute you can pick it up again as soon as we’ve made our point,) and tell the chocolate makers NO! We don’t want anymore inferior chocolate; we don’t want no-name, no frills, sugar-free, low calorie, low fat, carob chocolate.

We want our Cadbury’s, Mars, Hershey’s, Lindts and all those other delectable quality chocolates tasting as rich, creamy and delicious as they should. After all History teaches us to learn by our mistakes and you can’t improve on perfection!

The whole human race just loves chocolate with no exceptions. It is so delightful it makes you smile. Specially the plan chocolate which has come to be known as dark chocolate. The coco in this chocolate has the best taste and best benefits for your body.

Chocolate originates from beans, yes just like coffee. These Coco beans come from coco trees. It is thought that the process of turning the beans into chocolate originated three thousand years ago in the Americas. There are so many types of flavours and textures that chocolate is the King of all sweets.

Dark chocolate can taste bitter yet is still the favourite for all chocolate experts. One can compare the art of chocolate with the art of wine making. The coca is taken from the beans and made into pulp. Once this has been done the pulp is put into vats where it is left to ferment again similar to making wine. After this process the beans have to be dried in the sun and can take as long as 7 days. The beans then undertake a cleaning process and mixed with other mouth watering mixtures to determine its final type.

Different chocolate types go through slightly different processes. Milk chocolate goes through a different process than dark chocolate for instance. Then once the desired taste has been achieved, the chocolate is stored and shipped to its final destination.

The taste of chocolate is to die for and funny enough it is also very good to the body. There has been research done that shows positive results to the blood circulation of the body. Most chocolate eaters has shown signs of low blood pressure. Which in turn helps to reduce bad cholesterol and heart problems.
